A video-conferencing platform
Although we all used Zoom extensively during the pandemic, our time spent on video calls is significantly (and blissfully) less. Rather than downloading a separate app on your devices, Google Meet is built into both Gmail and Google Calendar and makes it quick and easy to create video-conferencing calls.
If you want to create a calendar event with a Meet link, it's as simple as clicking the "add video conferencing" button (see pictures below).
You can access Google Meet in your Gmail window, near the Chat and Spaces buttons.
If you are a Jamboard user, it's easy to add in a whiteboard while you're in a meeting to sketch out ideas or collaborate on something. Just click the three dots at the bottom of your screen in a meeting and then click "whiteboard: open a Jam"
Although this platform has a slightly different interface, it's simpler to use than Zoom and significantly simpler than Teams. It's always a good idea to open a test Meet and explore the features before a meeting.
People you meet with do not need to have a Google or Meet account in order to join the meeting, nor do they need to download any specific app - simply clicking the link will bring them to a meeting window and allow them to join.
Add video conferencing to a calendar event.
(optional) Click the gear icon to add additional Meet settings
You can even add co-hosts to meetings ahead of time.
