A virtual whiteboard software
Unfortunately, Google is discontinuing this particular software. There is a truly fantastic alternative; contact Jennifer Olivera for more details!
Although the Jamboard software was originally created to work with Google's physical digital whiteboard, the software is available for all Google users and is a wonderful tool for your classroom. Here are a few videos to help you get started, or you can head over to jamboard.google.com and explore on your own.
The best part about Jamboard is that any files or "jams" that you create are automatically saved to your Google drive and can be treated like any other Google app file.
Whenever possible, create your own Jamboard background for things you don't want to get accidentally moved or erased. You can do this in Google Slides or Canva. To get the perfect dimensions, you can specify a size of 1920 x 1080 pixels - but don't worry about this if you're just exploring for the first time!)
If you're inviting students to your Jamboard, consider inviting them as view-only. If you need them to make changes or edit it, turn on editing access only while they are with you and then turn it back off again afterward. Unlike other Google apps, there is no version history to refer to.
Remember that all Jamboard files can be exported as PDFs if you'd like to make them available to users outside of our domain (for example, families with Léman Google accounts).
How does this help you at Léman?
Pre-make Jamboard files for your lessons, then mark them up with students during class. These materials can be made available for reference after class.
Invite colleagues to collaborate on Jamboard files for brainstorming or ideation.
Use as icebreakers/team-building activities.
Use the color-coding system of stickies to organize by topic, idea, or contributor.
